About mauveine

A Raspberry Pi running mauveine

An embeddable and configurable alarm clock for Raspberry Pi systems designed for running on a touchscreen and written in PyQt.

Mauveine started as the dream of a woman who felt that this far into the 21st Century, we really ought not to have to set clocks by hand like some sort of stone age person. After that, things got a little out of hand, feature creep happened, and the rest is history.

The mauveine software is supplied on SD card images suitable for installing using the Raspberry Pi imager, and is designed to be as much like an appliance as it can be. It is a good project for someone who wants to learn by building a Raspberry Pi system of their own, but advanced users can install it on an existing Raspberry Pi system, or install other services on the device.

A gallery showing mauveine installed on a number of devices and illustrating its user interface is available.

Historical note

Mauveine dye was a bright purple dye which brought about a revolution in colourful Victorian clothing and fashion. A colourful project deserves a colourful name.
